Over the years Tanzania and Kenya have gained popularity as the worlds’ number 1 safari destination. For the wonders of wildlife such as The Wildebeest Migration, spectacular landscapes of endless savanna plains.
Tanzania – an incredibly varied country with expansive savannahs, massive mountains, long white beaches, dark forests, imposing rivers and multi-cultured peoples. A country of contrasts, from the endless plains of the Serengeti and the lush greenery of Ngorongoro to the Great Migration. Located in East Africa along the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, Tanzania boasts three of Africa’s best-known lakes – Lake Victoria in the north; Lake Tanganyika in the west; and Lake Nyasa in the south. Tanzania best known for its vast savanna including the plains of the Serengeti National Park; and Kilimanjaro National Park (home to Africa’s highest mountain).
Tropical islands are another of Tanzania’s appeals. The island of Mafia with a marine park including whale sharks and coral reefs, which make it one of Africa’s premier tourist destinations. Known as the Spice Island, the beautiful Arabic-inspired Zanzibar has a rich culture and history, coupled with idyllic white beaches hailed as some of the world’s best.

Renown for the Great Migration and Mount Kilimanjaro. Encompasses different landscapes – savannahs, lakelands, the dramatic Great Rift Valley and mountain highlands. Inhabited by megafauna, including big cats, the Big Five (elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard and rhino) and just about everything in between.
From the capital, Nairobi, safari goers make their way to the Masai Mara Reserve (known for its annual wildebeest migrations) and Amboseli National Park (which offers breathtaking views of Tanzania’s 5,895 m Mt. Kilimanjaro).
Straddles the equator with negligible seasonal temperature variance, makes Kenya the perfect year-round destination for a combination safari-and-beach holiday.
Seen as the sacred land of safari, Kenya has a special appeal from July to October when the scene is set for one of the world’s most epic natural wonders when almost two million wildebeest, zebra and gazelle leave the southern Serengeti, to arrive in the Masai Mara from late June. The Masai Mara, together with Amboseli and Tsavo National Parks and the Chyulu Hills, offers fantastic year-round game viewing including the legendary ‘Big Five’.
Both these destinations can be visited anytime of the year. For better safari experiences however, its advisable to visit in the dry season from June to August and from December to February. The wet season is also a great time to visit and its best for birding safaris.
